RE-DESIGNING A DEAD AREA

IN A RESIDENTIAL PROJECT

A-100-1.jpg

This project is located in Abu Dhabi, UAE.  The client requested to re-design a dead area in his villa, that is highlighted in red.

The main concerns in this area were:

1. The clients requested Islamic design theme that is known for it's heavy motifs in a small area.

2. The area doesn't have windows, thus no direct sun light.

3. The area is a connection of 3 corridors, thus sound travels easily in this space.

The client approved the proposed design, but didn't approve the proposed bill of quantity as his budget was too low.

Geometric Islamic pattern was embedded in the ceiling, with lights all around the borders of the room, giving the illusion of a wider space. Two geometrical vertical patterns where also added in the wall with lights to lead the eyes to the ceiling, while light colours were chosen due to the small space. And acoustical panels were added behind the sofa.

Black mirrors were used to give the illusion of a wider space, without causing disturbance for the people who will cross this area.

The customised chest box for the area is carved with had arabic calligraphy - Kofi Font - with a gold leaf top, creating some extra hidden storage for the area.
